How to Run a Fair Random Draw

A fair draw is more than an animation. Define eligibility, lock the list, use one random session, and keep a result record.

01

Publish eligibility first

State who can enter, when entries close, how duplicates are handled, and what disqualifies a winner before the draw begins.

02

Freeze one clean list

Remove headers and accidental blank rows, deduplicate by your published rule, and preserve the source list separately.

03

Lock the draw order

Use a cryptographic shuffle once. The visual reveal should display that locked result rather than continuously changing the probability.

04

Plan for alternates

Draw alternates in the original session and document how long a winner has to respond.

Frequently asked questions

Does a spinning wheel make a draw fair?

No. Fairness comes from the eligible list and random selection method. Animation is only presentation.

Should I redraw an ineligible winner?

Use the next locked alternate when possible and record the reason for replacement.
